Setup Initialization Failed

For those of you trying to run a new download, for each release we’ve been updating the installer with new code to address changes we’ve been making. as of now, the correct size for the installer is: 13393584 bytes. If you’re getting a setup initialization failed error, please delete the setup file, and redownload from the mosaic page here.
Thanks again for all of the time you all have put into this.

Best,

Justin

No problem, we all are here to help and vice versa. I can confirm that exact size as opposed to a bad download size that was available for a while earlier tonight.

Installing Mosaic on a WXP SP2 work laptop a hour ago was a very nice look (!) especially when I never saw it on my WXP SP2 home desktop the past 3 days. Hoping the “stream error, retrying” error within Mosaic can be resolved soon (as I’m not the only one having it). I’ll not be back to my home desktop for several days so hope others can help you iron out anything left to fix. Cheers!

    ^^^
I meant “Viewing Mosaic” (doh me) as I don’t have problems with any installation steps & just have that nagging stream error issue. Bed time for me as that was a misleading typo on my part.

Again, great work on everyone on the team to be patient with so many comments by subscribers in the last few days!

    @mlb

the glitches are getting hammered out. i must say this is the best quality streaming video i have ever seen on the internet. it doesnt take the place of tv of course, but it looks like you are heading in the right direction.

why not put a HELP–ABOUT button in mosaic somewhere so people can identify what version they are using?

other than some annoying buffering and sometimes the 4 tv matrix overlaying my single tv video session, everything seems to be going good.

im looking forward to single game video quality to get even better.

Im not sure where Im supposed to ask a questions like this so ill put it here and hope you can answer it.

I was wondering why when i go to watch an archived game of the bluejays i cant watch it, theres just the same pregame news thing that comes up over and over again then a blank screen that has the mlb.tv logo on it. I live in Canada so im in the blackout region but it says i can watch the archived games.

Help about – version is a good idea, the Mac version has this.

For now you can check the properties of the mlbplayer.exe or click on the ‘support’ link for Mosaic in add/remove programs to get the version.

It’s nice to hear and see some of the issues clearing up. Glad to help!

I’ve been deleting the setup file each of the approximately 30 times I’ve attempted to install. I’m still getting the failure to initialize error. Last tried this morning.

  10. dpezzullo@comcast.net

I too have tried a thousand times to install, and get an ‘Unable to initialize application’ error msg. It sez – It could be that you need to update your DirectX drivers. (but I have a ton of times too). It goes on to say – If this error persists, please report the following message to customer service – Exception: Exception from HRESULT:0x8876086.

This is where I stand today. What can I do anyone?

  11. info2@burnhamcustomhomes.com

still getting the “setup initialization failed” message. there’s a post from 4/5/07 referencing a 13+ mb setup file, but the link goes to a non-working 9.6 mb setup file. How do you get the accurate file?

  12. dylankolatzki@hotmail.com

i have the same problem as info2. i have deleted all tempfiles and i have tried to download the “new” mosiac file but all the links are for the 9.6.

    thanks.

  13. dylankolatzki@hotmail.com

any progress?? justin had emailed me the bigger version but when i download it it says “temporaily unavialable”.

and when i close it and try to reopen it, the program does a self update and then won’t open comes up

“couldn’t read tv script application from C:program data/…………

  14. irv@sandpebble.biz

When opening Mosaic I get the message “Can’t verify blackout info, please try again later”. I have just removed Mosaic and reinstalled – same results.

  15. dylankolatzki@hotmail.com

well after multiple un/install i can now at least login to the mosiac.

it does come up temporaily unavailable. someone please tell me everyone is getting this message because they are working on buffering/streaming issues.

justin has been a ton of help but if this thing isn’t functioning by noons games i want a refund and get it on demand.

  16. jpanko@aol.com

After several uninstalls and re-downloads still can’t get Mosaic to initialize. Error Msg reads exception from HRESULT:0x8876086c. My computer meets all the system requirements including DirectX 9C. Noticed others are having the same problem. Need a cure. Thanks

  17. bgrams7@hotmail.com

Same here. I keep reading about how to download the larger, apparently working file yet each time I delete the 9.6 MB file and try to re-download the file like it says above, it keeps downloading the 9.6 MB file and not the 13 MB file. Please figure out what is wrong rather than post a bunch of B.S. because it is obvious that it’s not working based on the number of people posting complaints about not being able to download the right file. If this is what I’m going to get with my $19.95 a month, then what’s the point?

  18. rellis@radiantsystems.com

MLB…you have 24 hours and I will be asking for my money back. Why wouldn’t you have tested this prior to the start of the season?

  19. koryfahnholz@yahoo.com

I am having troubles installing Mosaic. I get through the entire install process, then when I go to launch I get an error that reads:
MLBAppStart.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

I don’t have a firewall running—so what could the problem be?

  20. bar11247@aol.com

The file is the same one as far as I can see, as the one I downloaded yesterday and the day before (exact same size). I emptied the tempoary internet files, rebooted, etc., and it did exactly nothing to help. I am really upset. The people running this are a bunch of incompetent fools who do not care about us. Unless we all seek a mass refund. Maybe then they will. Idiots.

  21. betaboy99@gmail.com

I am a having the same problem that I had when I first downloaded Mosaic. I get the following message:

    Unable to initialize application

It could be that you need to update your DirectX drivers.

If this error persists, please report the following error message to customer support.

Exception: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {2A7F1E4B-1724-487C-9419-F24F01CAA644} failed due to the following error:

    80040154.

This error is not due to DirectX because I’ve downloaded the most current version. Also, I’ve uninstalled and downloaded the most current version of Mosaic which is 12.7 MB. What is the problem?

  22. computer77@hotmail.com

So many comments with the same problem- “Unable to Initialize Application” Update DirectX Drivers. Exception from HRESULT: 0x8876086C. Please MLB, will you post an explanation and solution? Lots of people waiting patiently…

  23. genemcdonald@0cents.com

I downloaded the Mosiac & received this Error Box:

    ‘Unable to initialize application”

    “Directx Drivers may need upadating”

    Exception: exception from HRESULT:0x8876086C

I went to Microsoft & dowloaded the latest Directx updates and tried to install again.

Again, I got the same Error Box………….must not be the Directx updates.

    Help!

  24. wytsox@sympatico.ca

I have the same problem as posted by several others and i have yet to see an answer to any of them posted. I go through downloading and install but won’t launch, as i get an MLBAppStart.exe error. Nice customer service where i have to sign up for another fee to be allowed to post my problem on this blog. Very disappointing product so far but the concept/potential will keep me trying for a few more days before i too finally say screw it……

  25. mosaic@website.mlb.com

    Hi guys,

I will send you individual e-mails to see if we can resolve these problems for you as soon as possible.

  26. jmbode@sbcglobal.net

same problem i have run into: Unable to initialize application
It could be that you need to update your DirectX drivers.

If this error persists, please report the following error message to customer support.

    Exception: Retrieving the COM

updated directx and still same error msg, read the thread, see others having same problem, but “solutions” dont seem to be posted for all to see, maybe we could fix it ourselves if it was shared.

  27. scfouts@comcast.net

I am having the same problem as jmbode and the rest above. DirectX drivers. Please advise on the problem. Thanks.

  28. dpezzullo@comcast.net

It seems it is wide spread and consistent in the error msg. When I read the other blogs there is nothing like this going on? How is it that it does not appear to be a man power priority considering the amount of individuals effected?

I believe some communication every 12 hrs or so would simply courtious. Lie if you have to but this should be update in light of its impact.

It’s disrespectful. Most of us bought this because we couldn’t get Extra Innings, which by the way, ironically became available late Wednesday. Mr Selig should have been a car salesman

  29. scott.g.davis@ssmb.com

I have Vista Ultimate and am getting the same errors that others are getting:

    Unable to initialize application

It could be that you need to update your DirectX drivers.

If this error persists, please report the following error message to customer support.

Exception: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {2A7F1E4B-1724-487C-9419-F24F01CAA644} failed due to the following error:

    80040154.

I re-installed and it still doesn’t work. What can I do?

  30. dpezzullo@comcast.net

    Justin,

Thank for the BLACK-OUT UPDATE now we know the games you can’t show us in the first place, we couldn’t see anyways. Boy do I feel better. Wow, glad you got that out in time. Very nive service. Now can we have an update as to why so many of us have had no response about this well entrenched software failure.

Do we at least get a rebate or do you not see this either.

April 7th 5 days not a peep. No TV no solution, No response, No rebate. BLACKOUTS? Excellent job.

  31. teamdfl@yahoo.com

I also continue to get the “Unable to initialize application” everytime I attempt to download. I’m the 35th comment on this board, and am curious to know what the magic number of complaints is before MLB actually decides to address the problem. I’ll happily continue to post the same complaint until that magic number is met in order for as all to simply recieve the service we’ve paid for.

  32. rockymahs@aol.com

MLB.COM should be ashamed. This is disgraceful. How many times can we ask them how to correct the “Exception from HRESULT: 0x8876086C” error? I sent an email and got no respnse. I called and was put on hold for approx. 47 mins. until I gave up. I will be askin for my money if nothing gets resolved soon. Now please get this too work and stop wasting my time. Thank you.

  33. danschlim@gmail.com

I have windows vista. has anyone found a fix for the Exception: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {2A7F1E4B-1724-487C-9419-F24F01CAA644} failed due to the following error:
80040154. problem? i have windows vista ultimate. please help. Thank you in advance

The following worked for me. Run these two commands from the run box, one at a time:

    c:\program files\mlb tv mosaic\vcredist_x86\vcredist_x86.exe

    regsvr32 “c:\program files\mlb tv mosaic\simulationmanager.dll”
