Mosaic Update – Temporarily Unavailable

Hi all,

In order to prevent some of the issues that some of you experienced yesterday, we’ve temporarily disabled the Mosaic application this evening, which is why you’re not able to log in right now. We’re working on ensuring that the issue is resolved, and are working towards a re-start for the next round of games this evening. We appreciate your understanding as we address the problem.
In the meantime, all of you who are premium subscribers can watch MLB.TV in the browser. You can find links to all of the games on the Multimedia Guide, or from the mini scoreboard on the homepage
Thanks, Justin

Those of you who responded to my comment about Mosaic not being available yesterday by telling me to relax, i answered by saying that this kind of **** happened all last season and already shows no signs of improvement.

    and the journey continues…

    @abmoser: Take a Valium.

I’m just as disappointed, but I’m not going to resort to any kind of immaturity such as what you’re displaying.

I normally won’t defend a moderator, but I doubt he had anything to do with the problems. I just feel they should choose a different developer and move away from dot.Net – it’s not made for large-scale deployment of multimedia like this – as is evident.

For the second successive day, I have no reception. I expect to be reimbursed for the days during which your service is not supplied. Please contact me to set this action in motion.

Actually you CANNOT use the browser as you state in your BLOG there is a known issue with multiple log in which locks your account – which also affects the browser!
As a Yankees fan living in the UK, needless to say my need to see the last opening Opening day at current Yankee Stadium has been ruined… so I think I am allowed to feel rather annoyed with the quality of this project. As an IT specialist I would suggest the product is fully tested before releasing to the public, and so avoiding such issues.

  5. randy@madcapgroup.com

It is a bit ridiculous to pay 20 dollars a month to beta test a product. It’s interesting that CBS is able to handle weekend traffic for the NCAA tournament, display a beautiful picture for a high-motion sport, and then give it away for free. Of course, there are junkies like me who live in Argentina and really have no alternative except P2P. We are at your mercy. I know MLB can find the resources to make a product that works. Give it away during spring training and do the testing then. If it’s a great product by the start of the season people will buy it. In defense of MLB, though, testing has never been their strong suit. My fingers are crossed, guys. For my Astros and for the ability to watch them. Neither are looking good at the moment.

Last night I was excited about the Moasaic, but had some troubles. I figured they’d have developers working on the issues. Quite a delay in how it functioned, and seemed to crash.

On top of that, the browser version doesn’t work either. Since I bought the MLB audio package, I am out either way since the browser version won’t load the game in Microsoft Silverlight.

I get everything but the display of the media player. Now I don’t even have a choice to use Windows Media Player.

Lots of headaches this year so far. Hoping it gets better. Please load test before production, especially with a potential audience of this size.

absolutely ridiculous. can’t even watch w/ the browser now. computer restarts, cleaning out cookies, etc. does not help. this is so lame and yet typical of mlb and mlb.tv.

i get this product for when i travel, & it works sketchy at best. another lame thing is that when i go to watch it in s. korea, there are blackouts. OK, but what the hell? i don’t speak enough korean to watch the games and realize what they are saying.****** you fox & mlb. they don’t even broadcast it in all blackout areas. weak. do ur research. ur upper management *** worse than the red sox. at least bud selig is happy with his annual income equal to the marlins.

  8. dr_fournier@hotmail.com

i’m also surprised they use so many ****** when i type words that aren’t cuss words or vulgar language. it’s just the man trying to keep us down again 😦 sad face.

  9. chris.mears@yahoo.com

New year but same old junk. Why does MLB.TV not use spring training as a beta test period to work out the kinks? We made the same complaint last year but as usual it fell on deaf ears. This is the most pathetic run project in the history of sports in my opinion!

    — That Mosaic doesn’t work is not at all surprising given all of last year’s frustrations … fine …
    — but I’m blacked out of games because my location (same as last year can’t be verified) … fine …
    — then I’m told I”m concurrently logged in so can’t watch through media player … which doesn’t work properly anyway .. fine …
    — but … all that and no service means … on Day 2 and I’m frustrated enough to cancel.

MLB.com — please tell us how to cancel?

  11. jswift@xsat.com

MLB.com doesn’t work either, you can’t get the streams off it. the Error is :
Records show that your account is currently logged in on multiple computers. Customers are not permitted concurrent use of a single subscription.

That was the message from Mosaic yesterday. Now it has infected the MLB.com streams as well.

They don’t have a clue when things will work again, I just wish they didn’t treat us like paying alpha testers. To bad they are a monopoly, no where else to go.

  12. harwood@nyclimits.org

Great posts guys. Yes, you would think they would do their testing during spring training. That makes way too much sense. This isn’t rocket science people! MLB should remember what the frustration level of their users was last year and be committed to resolving the Mosaic problems this year.

I am having the same problems as others with the ‘multiple account log on issue’. I simply logged on from my wife’s computer, tested it then logged off. Then I tried it on my computer and the MLB site won’t let me log in. An hour later and the problem persists. Crazy.

  13. jswift@xsat.com

It worked on a maching at work, I TSed to it from home. I rebooted that machine just to make sure that it didn’t stay logged on magically.

I try at home and it thinks I am logged on somewhere. Doesn’t sound like a hard one to fix on their end. Just turn the F*&^ing mulit logon check off!

  14. chris.mears@yahoo.com

I’m confused. Their own FAQ’s indicate logging in from multiple computers is OK … they even go so far as to explain why the two may not be synchronized. So why the hell are they turning on a multi login check in the first place???

    From the mosaic FAQ’s:
    5. If I have MLB.TV or the Mosaic running on two computers right beside each other, why are they out of sync?

The exact timing of the video can be affected by the speed of your computer, the bandwidth available, media player buffer size and possibly other issues. At most, we expect the offset could be as much as 30 seconds. The same can be said for any streaming media.

  15. abelanger@chartermi.net

I am lost. I paid for this at the begining of spring break. what a mistake. It seems to work….well ok not really. This is year 2 for being ******** in. How do i get my money back if i wanted it. everytime i try to call i am on hold. to make it worse they actually chime in and say my call is important to them. if it was important dont you think they would anwser??? i think id rather just watch on tv

  16. jasonbabcock800@yahoo.com

Is anybody else getting the blackout message on all games? I live in Michigan and I can’t watch any games at all right now. I have the regular package and the Tigers aren’t playing tonight. Why am I being blacked out? I called customer service…after an hour I got a lady that said she fixed it. Then it didn’t get fixed and she gave me some service number. What a load of junk! Let me know if you guys have any info to help me out.

  17. mistergonzo@verizon.net

Just like last year… Same type of problems. You would think this would have been solved before the start of baseball season. MLB Mosaic should reimburse all subscriptions, retro for each day they are down for service. Maybe that would be some incentive to fix the problem permanently. I hate missing games and still paying for the service.

  18. marcevan

Umm.. CBS march madness is handled by MLB Advanced Media, gentlemen. I’m doing ok with mosaic, but yes, once in awhile a little glitch. I’m digging Gameday though as it’s slightly ahead of live stream!

  19. klankymonkey@yahoo.com

My Mosaic works, yet I can only see one game, even in multi-screen mode. Ok, yet needs to improve.

  20. phewall@mac.com

Hey What gives??? I try to login and it says I’m blacked out? ********! I have not changed a thing since last year. Then it says they’re having some maintenance? On Opening Night so I miss my A’s versus the Red Sox? C’mon MLB, get your act together! God this **** pisses me off.

  21. phewall@mac.com

Wow, MLB has the technology to edit out me writing BS and cr*p, but can’t deliver the games that I am PAYING for. Good job.

  22. phewall@mac.com

Hey MLB, I just missed Jack Cust going Yard vs Dice-K **********… Why am I not watching this? Why???????

  23. ritayuhui@163.com

    hey MLB,
I can’t see the progrem for several days, i paid the money for one year, i got the message “Service Temporary Unavailable” .so what can i do? why ?????

  24. burrwick@yahoo.com

I have been getting the message “Service Temporarily Unavailable” for the last 3 days. Mosaic had it’s problems last year but it was understandable from the standpoint that it was the first season for the service. MLB had the whole off season to work out any problems with Mosiac and failed to deliver a solid application. Why?

So what do I do? Is the service going to be available any time in the near future?

  25. bobtallman@insightbb.com

After days of Mosaic’s “temporary unavailability,’ ( it has worked once so far in 2008), I have had it. Today not even the MLB TV page will load, thank goodness the Sox are on TBS.

I called 866-800-1275 and was on hold for over 30 minutes. When I got a human being I was asked my e-mail, I provided it, then I was promptly disconnected.

I encourage everyone with these issues to email customerservice@website.mlb.com and demand a two month refund. I would also suggest, to have these MLB TV/Mosaic folks take you seriously, to send a copy of your email to your state attorney general’s office of consumer protection.

I do not like paying $120 for absolutely nothing but hours of frustration. They have had enough time.

I must say that I was truly excited last year when the new mosiac software was introduced…but frankly in the end it has been an excercise in frustration…It is Opening Day at Fenway today (tuesday) and the service is un-avaliable!

I have read where many have said that those of you that work in the MIS division of MLB have had months to fix the problems…Sorry it’s now been almost a calendar year and still the software has bugs in it! I recommnend that before adding to the already un-reliable software. That prehaps you may want to get the original version correct 1st…

  28. ajacobsen@austin.rr.com

Look, MLB software/operations people: you could save us all a lot of aggravation and dissatisfaction if you’d just tell us up front that Mosaic is STILL down, rather than have all of us wasting our time logging into it, then WAITING FOREVER for your message that it’s down.

Right now, your latest comment on it is dated April 1, and it’s no longer April Fool’s Day.

I for one, would appreciate it.

  29. aebf@charter.net

It’s now April 9 and still no info on Mosaic. I’m still being told “service is temporarily unavailable.” Any idea when this is going to be fixed? Any updates? When I call the customer service line I’m just told “we are working on it.”

Please keep us informed of any progress or lack there of.

  30. burrwick@yahoo.com

it is now 5/5/08 and I still get service is temporarily unavailable on all my computers.

Why? What is happening? Are others able to use Mosaic? Should I be uninstalling and reinstalling the service? Where is the support and communication from the developers? Confused and disappointed. I’m sure this comment will also set without any sort of response. How can MLB treat their customers so shabbily?
