Update/Priorities for Today

Hi all, quick update for you. Sorry we’ve been a bit off the air, needed to focus more on some specifics of some of the technical issues we’re working through. We’re getting a lot done, and had quite a night of work on making all of the high quality streaming work better for you all, as well as working throuogh application and install issues. Anyways, for today, we’re focused on the following:
– Those of you who are still having installation trouble, if you haven’t already – please scroll down, read the install issues thread, and post a reply with your details per the instructions there. The team will be live on that thread and will be doing our best to provide responses to problems there.

– Those of you having video/audio playback issues: I’ll post some more tips and tricks for dealing with some of the bugs we’ve identified in order to have a better experience here in the short term while we tick them off of the bug list.

— If video comes up in the 6/4 game views on the PC and Mac, and is playing but you don’t hear audio, look to see where the audio is focused, indicated by the yellow bars around the video, and click in a different game once to change the audio focus. You should see the yellow indicator move, and hear audio from that feed. then click back to the feed you want to watch, and you should have audio. We’re hoping to have this bug resolved today.

— If you launch the player on the PC and see just black, or frozen video, give it 15 or 20 seconds. We’re having some stream startup related issues, and are working through them. It will start up, it just takes a few minutes. We know this isn’t a great experience, and will have it resolved.

— If your video and audio are always stuttering badly or not playing at all (stream error all the time, never seeing buffering, etc.) this is probably a local install/video driver/connectivity issue. We’d like to hear from you and get in touch. Please send in the details of your install on the Audio/Video thread i’ll put up in a sec.

For the other video playback issues: please see the thread below, and post in the appropriate thread with your details – this will help us resolve these faster.

Today, our developers are split between working through all of the audio/video playback issues we’ve seen reported, fixing more application bugs (making sure player tracker is working well, cleaning up game specific stats feeds, etc.), and addressing the stability and installation issues that some of you have reported. We’ll provide more updates for you throughout the day, and will have a build out before games start today that will address more of these, and another later this evening.

Audio/Video Issues Feedback Here

If you’re having trouble with audio/video playback in the Mosaic (or on MLB.TV on the site for that matter), please use this thread to help us diagnose and solve them. The more detailed you can be in your description of the problem, the easier it will be for us to help you quickly, so anything you can do to describe whats going on is much appreciated. Again, I know you all don’t have to take the time to help, and your feedback is very much appreciated.
Ideally in your feedback, we’d like (though we understand this is a lot to ask for):

OS Version (i.e. Windows XP with Service Pack 2 / Windows Vista, Mac OS 10.4.6, etc )
Computer Model/type/speed/memory (i.e. Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop with a 2ghz intel processor, and 512Megs of memory)
Video Card that you have (i.e. NVidia with 128Megs of memory)
Internet Connection speed/type (i.e. 3Mbit Cable, or 768K DSL)

Update and some tips

Good news on pong. We’re ditching it for tomorrow’s games, and forever.
A few suggestions to help mitigate some of the issues you all have been having.

-If a stream hangs, an easy way to force the app to immediately try and reconnect is to change the quality level by clicking on another level up on the top right, and then click back to the level you’re trying to watch.

-you can easily customize the 6 game mosaic and 4 game mosaic views: just drag and drop the icons from the top of the screen for each game, onto the window you want it to play in.

-the preferences link in the top right lets you set whether or not you want to see scores for completed games. we put this in to not “give away” the score for games that are over, if you’re coming back to watch the archive.

-The team drop down is a great way to switch games, as is dragging and dropping as mentioned above.

I thought I’d just take a moment and thank you all for spending so much time on here, and giving the team as much feedback as you have. Your continued participation is invaluable in helping us work through these issues.
As a serious baseball fan myself, I understand all of your frustration, and appreciate the time you all have invested in the game and in our products.

I’ll have another note for you all early tomorrow regarding the open issues we’ll be addressing from a bug/functionality perspective in our next release before games tomorrow, as well as an update on streaming. We’ll be working through the night here on getting the streaming into a more reliable state for you all.

In the meantime, anything you all can do to provide comments in the appropriate threads and keep things somewhat organized and productive will help us address issues more quickly. That said, if you want to vent, this is a good thread for it.

Streaming Issues this evening

Hi all,
In the interest of resolving the streaming issues some of you are seeing this evening, for those that are having trouble streaming, would you mind posting the following in this thread:

– OS version
– location
– connection type (dsl, cable,etc.)
– the types of problems you’re having (and which streams – 4/6 game or single game) in as much detail as you might have time to write in

any feedback you can provide would be much appreciated. This is not a mosaic only issue apparently, as we’ve had reports here that some of you are having trouble on the single game streams (which are the same MLB.TV streams we all watch on mlb.com).

FLA/WSH Game

We recently posted a new build to fix pre-game feed issues with the single game feeds. if you’re having trouble getting into any of the games tonight while pre-game – please close and re-open the mosaic app and it will download the new version.

Install Issues

Hi all,
In an effort to respond more quickly, we’ll be addressing Install issues in this one thread. For those of you still having install issues, please post a comment in this thread that includes:

Operating system and the error you’re receiving, as verbosely as you’re able.

We’ll be responding in the comments section and getting in touch via email with some of you directly.

SF Game

We just resolved the issue with the SF Game in single game view. if you’re still struggling with it, please close and reopen the mosaic and it should be working for you.

Player Tracker

Those of you still having trouble with the player tracker – please force refresh the popup window where you pick the players – control-F5 on windows, and this should clear it up.
Functionally, you should pop up the window and it will prompt you to login (or if you are already logged in in the mosaic, just be sure you’re using the same account in the browser as you are in the mosaic). Once logged in, add your players – make sure you see them on the right hand side, and then at the bottom of the window make sure you click on Save. Then close the window, and click the update button in mosaic and you should see your players.
